Transitions Photo Exhibition

Ten Years After
Prague Castle, 23 February - 5 April 1999

On Tuesday, 23 February, the largest ever exhibition of photography from post-communist countries will open at the Prague Castle. The exhibition will feature works of 30 photographers from 15 countries, selected by Arpad Gerecsey, director of World Press Photo, Kees Schaepman, executive editor of Transitions, and Karolina Hulova, art editor of Transitions.

The exhibition is organized by Transitions in cooperation with the Prague Castle Administration. The theme is "Ten Years After"--referring to the fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 and the dramatic changes in political, social and cultural life since then. All participants have worked for Transitions since its founding four years ago. For some of them it was their first exposure to an international audience.

Transitions offers journalists, illustrators, and photographers from the former communist countries an independent medium. It is an explicit editorial policy to attract new contributors for every issue. The February issue of the magazine will contain a special 32-page photo-supplement dedicated to the exhibition, the participants, and their work.

Prague Castle, 23 February - 5 April 1999
